- 1 1/2 cups all purpose flour
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 2 tablespoons honey
- 1/4 cup shortening
- 1/4 cup butter, softened
- 2/3 cup milk, skim
How To Make southern biscuits
-
Step 1Preheat oven to 450 degrees. Mix dry ingredients and honey. Cut in shortening and butter until mixture resembles small peas or crumbs. Stir in milk until dough leaves side of bowl. Turn onto lightly floured surface.
-
Step 2Knead lightly about 10 times. Pat dough to 1/3" inch thick, cut with biscuit cutter. Place each biscuit onto ungreased cookie sheet about 1" apart for crispy sides, touching for soft sides; brush tops with milk or 1 beaten egg.
-
Step 3Bake until golden brown, 12 to 15 minutes. Immediately remove from cookie sheet onto cooling rack.
