These biscuits are a great accompaniment to ham or any type of soup/stew. Easy to make - nice and spicy.

Ingredients

  • 2 c
    all purpose flour
  • 1 1/2 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp
    salt
  • 1/2 tsp
    coarsely ground black pepper, divided
  • 2 Tbsp
    chilled butter, cut into small pieces
  • 3/4 c
    sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 3/4 c
    fat-free milk
  • ·
    vegetable oil spray
  • 1
    egg white, slightly beaten

How to Make Peppery Cheddar Biscuits

Step-by-Step

  1. Combine flour, baking powder, salt and 1/4 tsp. black pepper in a large bowl.
  2. Using a pastry cutter, mix in butter until mixture resembles coarse meal. Add cheese and toss well.
  3. Add milk and stir just until dry ingredients are moistened. Turn dough out onto a floured surface and knead 4-5 times. Roll dough out to 1/2 " thick and then using a 2" biscuit cutter, cut into rounds.
  4. Place biscuits on parchment lined baking sheets and brush with the egg white. Sprinkle the remaining 1/4 tsp. black pepper on top of each biscuit.
  5. Bake biscuits at 425 degrees F for approx. 15 minutes or until lightly browned.
