These are the most light, and taste biscuits I have ever eaten. Everyone loves them and they are great on top of one of our favorite dishes, Chicken n Biscuits. The secret is in the cream of tarter. I think I got this recipe from my late mother in law, Jean. She was a true country cook!

yield Depends on how many biscuits a person takes and the size of the biscuit cutter, but about 12-15.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tarter
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 1/2 cup shortening ( liquid)
  • 1 - egg
  • 2/3 cup milk

How To Make our family biscuits

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Mix flour, baking powder, cream of tarter, salt and sugar (use fork). Make a center hole in these dry ingredients. Add shortening, egg and milk. Gently mix and pour onto a floured counter. Add just enough flour to make a smooth ball. Roll out and cut into biscuits. Bake for 15 minutes. Please check for golden brown look!
