My mom taught me how to make biscuits when I was about 10. Joe loves them with coffee, a southern thing I guess we call them Soakies, just drop your biscuit in the cup and eat with a spoon

Ingredients

  • 2 cups sifted self rising flour( i use white lily)
  • 1/2 cup vegetable shortening
  • 1 cup whole buttermilk
  • - more flour for kneading

How To Make kat's buttermilk biscuits

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Grease or spray cookie sheet or biscuit pan.
  • Step 2
    In a medium bowl sift flour, cut in shortening until pea size balls form, pour in buttermilk and mix together, you want a medium thick dough, not stiff, (you may need to add a little extra flour or buttermilk)sprinkle flour on cutting board or clean counter top, pour dough onto and knead for 1-2 minutes, press dough out to about 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick(depends on how big you want your biscuits), use a biscuit cutter and cut out biscuits, place on greased pan, place in oven and bake for 12-15 minutes until tops are brown, remove from oven and brush with butter
