How to Make Jo's Sourdough Biscuits

  1. Preheat oven to 400* lightly grease baking sheet with bacon grease, or if you are using a dutch oven while camping.
  2. About 1 hour before transfer sourdough starter into mixing bowl. Add flour, salt, shortening and enough water for heavy batter. Cover and let rise, use a warm damp cloth set on stove. If using dutch oven preheat also.
  3. Mix soda, and sugar together, sprinkle over dough mixture then beat for 5 minutes. Turn out on a heavily floured board, pat down and cut with biscuit cutter or jelly jar 4 inch dip into flour before you cut your biscuit each time. After baking 25 minutes or till golden brown. Dough will be soft as if a doughnut. Take out of oven and brush with bacon grease. Serve hot
  4. I like to do fried biscuits when camping or even at home. I deep fry in my dutch oven, we eat with honey. Just cut and drop into the hot oil, they are done cooking when they float to the top of the oil. Let drain on paper towel. Enjoy
