Ingredients For "high rise" wheat biscuits

  • 2 c
    whole wheat flour
  • 1 c
    low protein all-purpose flour, e.g., white lily or martha white
  • 2 Tbsp
    baking powder
  • 1 tsp
    salt
  • 1 c
    butter, cold
  • 1 c
    buttermilk
  • 1/3 c
    sour cream
  • 1/4 tsp
    sugar
  • 1/4 tsp
    vanilla extract

How To Make "high rise" wheat biscuits

    Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.

    Combine flours, baking powder and salt; then cut in stick of butter with pastry blender.

    Combine remaining ingredients well and then add to dry mixture. Stir until it comes together as a lump of dough. Do NOT knead the dough.

    Sprinkle whole wheat bench flour down and roll out dough to desired thickness, cut out biscuits and bake until golden brown - about 10 minutes.
