whole wheat flour
1 c
low protein all-purpose flour, e.g., white lily or martha white
2 Tbsp
baking powder
1 tsp
1 c
butter, cold
1 c
1/3 c
sour cream
1/4 tsp
1/4 tsp
vanilla extract

How to Make "High Rise" Wheat Biscuits


  • 1Preheat oven to 450 degrees F.
  • 2Combine flours, baking powder and salt; then cut in stick of butter with pastry blender.
  • 3Combine remaining ingredients well and then add to dry mixture. Stir until it comes together as a lump of dough. Do NOT knead the dough.
  • 4Sprinkle whole wheat bench flour down and roll out dough to desired thickness, cut out biscuits and bake until golden brown - about 10 minutes.
