Mom made so many biscuits... for shortcakes and for main dishes. We loved biscuits and honey all by themselves. Herb biscuits are especially good with a chicken stew or soup. They can even be added to a stew and cooked as dumplings. SO GOOD!

Ingredients

  • 1 1/4 cups flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon dried thyme
  • 1 teaspoon chives
  • 1 teaspoon parsley
  • 1/2 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • - additional melted butter for brushing on baked hot biscuits

How To Make herb biscuits

  • Step 1
Preheat oven to 400 degrees. Stir together dry ingredients. When well mixed add milk and butter. Stir quickly with a fork to mix. Pat dough out gently to 1/2 inch thickness and cut out biscuits. Bake for about 10 minutes on an ungreased cookie sheet. Biscuits should be puffed and golden brown. Brush with more melted butter and serve hot.
  • Step 2
DUMPLING VARIATION: Drop unbaked dough on top of stew or soup. Cover pot and cook for about 10 minutes without peeking. Remove lid and check done-ness. Dumplings will look moist outside but inside should be cooked like the inside of the biscuits.
