I got this recipe from a championship rodeo cookbook.

Ingredients

  • 5 cups flour
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 2 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 2/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 3 tablespoons warm water

How To Make cowboy biscuits

  • Step 1
    Sift 4 cups flour into a large bowl. Make a hole in the center of the flour.
  • Step 2
    Mix an sift into hole 1 cup flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda and salt.
  • Step 3
    Mix yeast with the 3 tablespoons of water.
  • Step 4
    Then pour buttermilk, oil and yeast mixture into the same hole as sifted mixture. Mix well.
  • Step 5
    Cover lightly and let stand in refrigerator for 3 hours.
  • Step 6
    Pinch off balls of dough the size you want your biscuits to be and place in a greased pan.
  • Step 7
    Bake at 400 degress for 10-12 minutes.
  • Step 8
    The dough will keep 5-6 days in the refrigerator.
