I use butter in this recipe for the shortening. These are great for lunch or dinner and, if you leave out the ground mustard, I think they'd be great for breakfast! Leftovers are best if toasted.

Ingredients

  • 1 1/3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 cup cornmeal
  • 2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground mustard
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup cheddar cheese, shredded
  • 1 cup milk

How To Make cornmeal drop biscuits

  • Step 1
    In a bowl, combine the first five ingredients; cut in shortening until crumbly.
  • Step 2
    Stir in cheese and milk just until moistened.
  • Step 3
    Drop by 1/4 cupfuls 2 inches apart onto a greased baking sheet.
  • Step 4
    Bake at 375 for 26-28 minutes or until golden brown.
