I use butter in this recipe for the shortening. These are great for lunch or dinner and, if you leave out the ground mustard, I think they'd be great for breakfast! Leftovers are best if toasted.

all-purpose flour
1/2 c
cornmeal
2 1/2 tsp
baking powder
1/2 tsp
salt
1/2 tsp
ground mustard
1/2 c
shortening
1/2 c
cheddar cheese, shredded
1 c
milk

How to Make Cornmeal Drop Biscuits

Step-by-Step

  • 1In a bowl, combine the first five ingredients; cut in shortening until crumbly.
  • 2Stir in cheese and milk just until moistened.
  • 3Drop by 1/4 cupfuls 2 inches apart onto a greased baking sheet.
  • 4Bake at 375 for 26-28 minutes or until golden brown.
