This biscuit mix is quite a time saver for my family. The only thing I did differently from the original recipe was to readjust the baking time, and I also added organic flour and milk to the mix. I hope you give this recipe a try, and I hope you enjoy it as much as I have. One of my favorite things to do is to add a little more sugar to a couple of fresh made biscuits for a quick strawberry shortcake for two. Yum! You can make one biscuit or as many as you wish with this recipe. It stores well in the fridge and has never failed me. It is a keeper! ~ Original recipe by James S

Ingredients

  • THE MIX
  • 4 3/4 cups organic all-purpose flour
  • 2 tablespoons baking powder
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 tablespoon sugar
  • 4 tablespoons cold crisco.

How To Make bonnie's biscuit mix

  • Step 1
Add the first four ingredients to the food processor and pulse until well mixed. Then add the COLD Crisco shortening from the can. It MUST be cold. Pulse until the size of small peas.
  • Step 2
Pour the mix into a container and store in the fridge. It must be stored in the fridge.
  • Step 3
Preheat the oven to 425 degrees.
  • Step 4
MAKING BISCUITS When you are ready to make biscuits, pour some mix into a small bowl and slowly add cold milk to the mix until you have a dough that is just ready to form. Handle this dough gently, only enough to form the dough into a ball.
  • Step 5
Remove the dough to a lightly floured surface. flour your hands and pat out the dough with your hands to a thickness of about one inch. Fold the dough over, and then fold it over again.
  • Step 6
Do this in both directions. It makes flaky biscuits.
  • Step 7
By now, the dough is getting smoother. Pat again to one inch and cut with a large or medium glass cutter, don't twist.
  • Step 8
Place the cut biscuits on parchment paper on a baking pan. Brush with soft butter before baking.
  • Step 9
BAKING TIPS Bake for 17 to 20 minutes depending on the size of your biscuits and your oven. Extra large biscuits may take 25 to 30 minutes. Watch them carefully the first time you make them and see what temp is perfect for your oven. They just start to brown in my oven at 15 minutes. Do not overcook!
  • Step 10
Don't ever trust a cook that won't eat what they make. :) So good with blackberry jam! Enjoy!
