My favorite old y, best comfort food. My mom had biscuits on the table at every meal.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 4 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
  • 2 teaspoons susgar
  • 1/2 cup shortening
  • 1 cup buttermilkm more or less if needed

How To Make biscuits supreme

  • Step 1
    Sift dry ingredients into bowl.
  • Step 2
    Cut shortening into flour mix until the size of peas.
  • Step 3
    Add buttermilk and stir into a soft, sticky dough. Place on floured board. Knead several times until smooth and not too sticky.Roll out with rolling pin until 3/4 inch thick. Cut with biscuit cutter with out twisting the cutter and place in an ungreased pan close together., or in a wrought iron skillet that has been heated in the oven as it preheats. Smooth tops with 1/2 teaspoon milk each or bacon grease.
  • Step 4
    Bake in preheated oven at 425 degrees for about 12 min. Remove from oven, set for 5 min. Eat hearty with butter, honey, jam or lemon curd. Molasses is favored also. Serves about 6 people.
