  • 2 c
  • 4 tsp
    baking powder
  • 1/4 tsp
    baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp
  • 1/2 tsp
    cream of tartar
  • 2 tsp
  • 1/2 c
  • 1 c
    buttermilkm more or less if needed

How to Make Biscuits Supreme


  1. Sift dry ingredients into bowl.
  2. Cut shortening into flour mix until the size of peas.
  3. Add buttermilk and stir into a soft, sticky dough. Place on floured board. Knead several times until smooth and not too sticky.Roll out with rolling pin until 3/4 inch thick. Cut with biscuit cutter with out twisting the cutter and place in an ungreased pan close together., or in a wrought iron skillet that has been heated in the oven as it preheats. Smooth tops with 1/2 teaspoon milk each or bacon grease.
  4. Bake in preheated oven at 425 degrees for about 12 min. Remove from oven, set for 5 min. Eat hearty with butter, honey, jam or lemon curd. Molasses is favored also. Serves about 6 people.
