I use to make these at the little school where I cooked at several years ago. They are tender and flaky. This recipe is doubled,so it makes about 24 depending on what size bisquits you make,

Ingredients

  • 4 cups sifted flour
  • 8 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon cream of tarter
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1 1/3 cups milk
  • 2 - eggs beaten
  • - shredded cheese (optional)

How To Make baking powder bisquits

  • Step 1
Sift first five ingredients together into a bowl. Cut in shortening. Add milk slowly, then add beaten egg.I added some cheese. About 3/4 cup,but I could have added more as you could'nt really taste the cheese that much.Stir untill dough is stiff. Knead on a lightly floured board five times or untill good rolling consistency. Roll 1/2 inch thick. Cut to desired size for bisquits. Place on greased baking pan. Bake on 450 degrees for 10 to 15 minutes.
