angel biscuits
(1 RATING)
A nice alternative to the traditional yeast roll. Kids and adults love them with roasts, ham, turkey or chicken. :)

makes about eight rolls but depends on your biscuit cutter
Ingredients
- 1 - pkg. yeast
- 1/4 cup warm water
- 1 cup buttermilk
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 cup sugar
How To Make angel biscuits
-
Step 1Mix the flour, baking powder, salt and sugar with shortening till crumbly. Dissolve the yeast in the warm water Add yeast mixture and buttermilk to flour mixture. Stir well.
-
Step 2Knead on a floured surface and cut into biscuits. Let rise.(note they will not rise as high as yeast rolls - I usually like to provide on avg two hours.)
-
Step 3Bake at 400 degrees till lightly brown. *Can be kept in the refrigerator till ready to bake; however, take them out in time to rise. * I often will replace about 3/4 cup of the flour for wheat flour. If you do this increase the yeast. Makes about eight biscuits with about a 2-1/2 biscuit cutter.
