Ingredients
- 2 1/4 teaspoons active dry yeast
- 1/2 cup lukewarm water
- 5 cups all-purpose flour
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 1 tablespoon baking powder
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 cup shortening, cold
- 2 cups buttermilk
How To Make angel biscuits
-
Step 1Preheat the oven to 400 degrees F. Grease a baking sheet with butter, oil, or cooking spray. Sprinkle the yeast over the lukewarm water, and let it sit about 10 minutes.
-
Step 2Meanwhile, add the flour, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt to a bowl of a standing mixer. With the paddle, cut the shortening into the flour mixture until it resembles a coarse meal. Add the yeast and buttermilk and mix well.
-
Step 3Work the dough on a floured surface and roll it out to a 1-inch thickness. Cut the biscuits into 2 1/2 inch rings.
-
Step 4Place on the baking sheet and bake until golden. Let cool and cut in half. Pour yummy sausage gravy over, or use jelly, honey, or whatever you want.
