Bierocks(Old Fashioned Volga German Hamburgers)

FOR THE SWEET DOUGH

2 cups warm water

2 (.25 ounce) packages active dry yeast
•
1/2 cup milk
•
3/4 cup sugar
•
1/4 cup margarine, softened
•
2 eggs
•
2 teaspoons salt
•
8 cups all-purpose flour
•
1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
•
1/2 cup shortening(I use Crisco)
•
FOR THE FILLING
•
1 lb ground beef
•
1 lb German sausage-casings removed(Italian sausage is easier to find-don't tell my aunt Maggie!)
•
2 tbsp olive oil
•
1 medium onion, finely chopped
•
2 cloves garlic, minced
•
3 tbsp salt
•
1 1/2 tsp lemon pepper
•
2 tbsp prepared mustard
•
1 head cabbage, shredded(not diced or chopped!)
•
1 cup water
•
1/2 cup melted butter
