Makes 2 dozen cookies. Mom used this recipe before 1967 along with the frosting for cut outs.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup margarine
  • 1/2 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda dissolved in 2 tsp milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1/2 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 pinch salt
  • 2 1/2 cups flour
  • 1 tablespoon cocoa(optional for chocolate cookies only)

How To Make cut out cookies

  • Step 1
    Cream margarine and sugar, beat in egg. Add baking soda/milk, vanilla, salt and flour. Chill. To speed it up, place dough in freezer for 15 minutes
  • Step 2
    Roll dough on unfloured board, use no flour on rolling pin to 1/8" thickness Dip cutter in flour before cutting out cookies
  • Step 3
    Bake at 350 for 10-12 minutes Cool. Frost and decorate
