8 (1-inch) slices challah bread preferably day old

2 tbsp butter for cooking the french toast

For the Bananas Foster
•
1/2 cup unsalted butter
•
1/2 cup light brown sugar
•
1 tsp ground cinnamon
•
1/4 tsp ground nutmeg preferably freshly ground or grated
•
3 large bananas ripe, but not mushy
•
1/4 cup dark spiced rum
