4½oz butter softened, plus extra for greasin

4½oz caster sugar

2 eggs, beaten

4½oz sifted, self raising flour

For the meringue
•
3 egg whites
•
7oz caster sugar
•
pinch of cream of tartar
•
For the chocolate sauce
•
7fl oz double cream
•
7oz dark chocolate in drops or chopped into pieces
•
1–2 tbsp rum or brandy (optional)
