german chocolate cake frosting

I have adapted this recipe for the microwave and it is so much better than the canned frosting that you buy. The original recipe came from my Mom. You could actually double this if you want a lot of frosting-this just barely covers the top of the cake.

Ingredients

  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons corn starch
  • 1 large egg
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1 cup coconut
  • 1/2 cup pecans, chopped

How To Make german chocolate cake frosting

  • Step 1
    Mix sugar and cornstarch together in a medium sized microwavable bowl. Beat egg until fluffy, add the milk, beat, mix with the sugar mixture and cook 2 1/2 minutes in the microwave, stirring every minute ( watch it so it does not over flow). Add butter and cook an additional minute. Add the coconut and nuts. Spread on cake.
