These recipes are alternative fillings for my mushroom tart dough recipe. I will link that recipe in the comments section. Tomato herb, cauliflower and caramelized onion. All three are savory, delicious and can be frozen for later use.The caramelized onion uses the dough recipe, and my caramelized onion jam recipe. Linked also in the comments section. Dust off your tart pans and enjoy these delicious savory tarts!

Ingredients

  • 1 decide which tarts to make!
  • 2 tomato herb tarts
  • 3 caramelized onion tarts
  • 4 roasted cauliflower tarts

How To Make savory tarts 3 ways

  • Step 1
    FOR THE TOMATO HERB FILLING: 3 large or 1 pint cherry tomatoes 4 Tablespoons dijon mustard 2 Cups Gruyere, or mozzarella cheese, grated 1 teaspoon Herbs de Provence, or rosemary
  • Step 2
    Make the tart dough and line 2 tart pans with rolled out dough. Spread with a thin layer of dijon mustard.
  • Step 3
    Top each tart with half the cheese.
  • Step 4
    Add sliced tomatoes to cover. Sprinkle on your herbs.
  • Step 5
    Chill tarts well before baking. (freezer works well) while the oven heats up.
  • Step 6
    Heat oven to 425 degrees. Take tarts our of freezer and bake in preheated oven for 30-35 minutes until golden brown. Let cool, and serve warm or room temp.
  • Step 7
    FOR THE CARAMELIZED ONION TARTS: Make 1 recipe of Caramelized onion Jam. Make tart dough and roll out, place in tart pans.
  • Step 8
    Beat the following together to create the base: 4 ounces cream cheese 5 ounces goat cheese ( I used herbed goat cheese) 1 beaten egg 2 Tablespoons chives
  • Step 9
    Spread the base on the tart dough filled pans.
  • Step 10
    Spread the caramelized onions on top of the base/cream cheese blend.
  • Step 11
    Bake at 425 degrees for 30-35 minutes until golden brown.
  • Step 12
    FOR THE CAULIFLOWER TART: Roast cauliflower that has been cut into 1 inch pieces by tossing with 1/4 cup olive oil and salt and pepper to taste. Roast at 425 degrees for about 25 minutes.
  • Step 13
    Have caramelized onion jam at the ready.
  • Step 14
    CREAM TOGETHER FOR THE TOPPING: 8 ounces cream cheese 2 1/2 Tablespoons cream cheese, softened 1/4 cup heavy cream. Add to this: 1 Cup of grated swiss , or gruyere cheese. Set aside.
  • Step 15
    Using the tart dough, roll and place in tart pans.
  • Step 16
    Spread caramelized onion jam on dough.
  • Step 17
    Sprinkle onion layer with roasted cauliflower pieces.
  • Step 18
    Spread the prepared topping over entire tart.
  • Step 19
    Bake in preheated 350 degree oven for 30-35 minutes. Serve warm or room temp.
