These are tasty little crispy onions with a garlicy aioli.

Ingredients

  • 1 bag frozen pearl onions
  • TEMPURA
  • 1/2 cup rice flour
  • 1/2 tablespoon baking powder
  • 1/3 - 1/2 cup ice cold sparking water
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • peanut oil for deep frying
  • GARLIC AIOLI
  • 3 large egg yolks
  • 3 tablespoons red wine vinegar
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • olive or avocado oil

How To Make pearl onion tempura with garlic aioli

  • Step 1
    Take the bag of onions out of the freezer and let sit at room temperature for about an hour to thaw.
  • Step 2
    To make the aioli, add all the ingredients except the oil to a food processor. Slowly drizzle the oil in while processing until a thick aioli forms. Place in the fridge until the onions are done.
  • Step 3
    Place the rice flour and baking powder in a dish.
  • Step 4
    Slowly add the sparkling water, whisking until a thin batter appears. Add the onions to the batter.
  • Step 5
    Bring the oil to 350 degrees. Deep fry the onions in batches until golden.
  • Step 6
    Drain on paper towels.
  • Step 7
    Serve with the aioli for dipping.
