Ingredients

  • 6 quarts thinly sliced cucumbers
  • 6 medium white onions thinly sliced
  • 3/4 cup pickling or course kosher salt
  • 2 cups water
  • 1 quart vinegar
  • 4 cups sugar
  • 2 tablespoons celery seed
  • 3 tablespoons mustard seed
  • 3 teaspoons tumeric

How To Make bread and butter pickles

  • Step 1
    ARRANGE SLICED CUCUMBERS AND ONIONS IN A BOWL.SPRINKLE EACH LAYER WITH SALT.COVER AND LET STAND 3 HOURS.
  • Step 2
    DRAIN OFF JUICE. COMBINE WATER, VINEGAR,SUGAR,CELERY AND MUSTARD SEED AND TUMERIC.
  • Step 3
    BOIL 3 MIN. UNTIL SUGAR IS DISSOLVED. ADD CUCUMBER MIXTURE AND BRING TO A BOIL.LET SIMMER FOR A FEW MINUTES.
  • Step 4
    SEAL IN HOT STERILIZED JARS.
