Ingredients

  • 6 qt
    thinly sliced cucumbers
  • 6 medium
    white onions thinly sliced
  • 3/4 c
    pickling or course kosher salt
  • 2 c
    water
  • 1 qt
    vinegar
  • 4 c
    sugar
  • 2 Tbsp
    celery seed
  • 3 Tbsp
    mustard seed
  • 3 tsp
    tumeric

How to Make BREAD AND BUTTER PICKLES

Step-by-Step

  1. ARRANGE SLICED CUCUMBERS AND ONIONS IN A BOWL.SPRINKLE EACH LAYER WITH SALT.COVER AND LET STAND 3 HOURS.
  2. DRAIN OFF JUICE. COMBINE WATER, VINEGAR,SUGAR,CELERY AND MUSTARD SEED AND TUMERIC.
  3. BOIL 3 MIN. UNTIL SUGAR IS DISSOLVED. ADD CUCUMBER MIXTURE AND BRING TO A BOIL.LET SIMMER FOR A FEW MINUTES.
  4. SEAL IN HOT STERILIZED JARS.
