These Air Fryer Onion Rings are a cinch to make and they stay much crispier than deep fried onions rings without all the added calories and fat. To give them the best crispy breading they are first dipped in buttermilk and eggs, then in seasoned flour, back in the buttermilk and eggs, and then in panko breadcrumbs. My family just can’t get enough of these flavorful onions rings. If anyone is running late for dinner simply pop them back into the air fryer for a couple of minutes to warm them up and they taste just like they did when you first air fried them.

Ingredients

2 medium yellow onion sliced 1/2 inch thick and separated into rings
3/4 cup flour
2 teaspoons old bay seasoning
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon fresh ground black pepper
2/3 cup buttermilk
1 egg
2 cups panko breadcrumbs
vegetable oil

How To Make air fryer onion rings

Step 1

Arrange three bowls. In one bowl combine the flour, old bay seasoning, salt and pepper. In the second bowl combine the buttermilk and the egg, in the last bowl add the breadcrumbs.

Step 2

Dip each ring in the buttermilk/egg mixture, then in the flour mixture, back into the buttermilk/egg mixture, and then into the panko breadcrumbs.
Step 3

Brush or spritze the air fryer basket with vegetable oil and preheat to 360 degrees Do not use an aerosol spray. Brush or spritz the onion rings with vegetable oil.
Step 4

Lay in a single layer in the air fryer basket and cook 6-7 minutes or until crispy. Check on them several times as air fryer times vary.
