Romantic Dinner Basket

For a dessert treat, slip a small box of fancy chocolates into the picnic basket. Heart shaped truffles are a sweet and sensuous way to say "I love you."

for the shrimp cocktail sauce:
1 can beer, 12 oz
2 tbsp. shellfish seasoning
12 to 18 jumbo shrimp
1 cup catsup
1 tbsp. horseradish
for the crab dip:
1 cup sour cream
1/2 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup loosely packed chopped chives
2 tsp. finely grated lemon peel
1/2 tsp. frehly squeezed lemon juice
1/2 tsp. garlic powder
1/2 tsp. salt
1 pkg. flaked snow or king crabmeat, 1 lb.
bottle of wine, towels, candles, crackers, matchsticks


1Fill a large pan with water; add beer and shellfish seasoning. Bring to a boil. add shrimp. Cover and boil til shrimp are pink, 3 to 5 minutes.
2Drain shrimp, let cool and peel. Using a sharp knife, cut a lit along the back of each shrimp; remove dark vein. Chill shrimp in covered container.
3In small container, mix the ketchup and horseradish. cover and chill.
4In medium bowl, mix sour cream, mayonnaise, chives, lemon peel, lemon juice, garlic powder and salt. Mix well. Stir in crabmeat. Put the crab dip in a tightly sealed container. Refrigerate til ready to use.
5To assemble the basket, in the bottom of basket, arrange shrimp, cocktail sauce, and crab dip. Put a bottle of wine near the middle of the basket. Tuck a towel around the bottle. Add wine glasses, using the napkins to cushion them.
6Arrange breadsticks, crackers, candles, candlesticks and matches around the other items.
