It's famous the world over, but Australia really embraced the prawn cocktail as its own in the 1970s. It was almost the beginning of fine dining, Aussie style. This used the traditional Rose Marie sauce.

Ingredients For prawn cocktail

  • 1 lb
    fresh cooked prawns already peeled, and deveined
  • 2 1/2 c
    iceberg lettuce , finely sliced
  • lemon wedges
  • fresh parsley, finely chopped
  • SAUCE
  • 2/3 c
    mayonnaise
  • 1 Tbsp
    ketchup
  • 1 tsp
    worcestershire sauce
  • 1 tsp
    freshly grated horseradish
  • tabasco sauce, to taste
  • pinch
    cayenne pepper

How To Make prawn cocktail

  • 1
    Check to make sure prawns are completely peeled and deveined.

    Mix together sauce ingredients in a bowl large enough for all the shrimp.

    Toss prawns with sauce.
  • 4
    Put a small bit of lettuce in martini glass first.
  • 5
    Next put in prawns. Finish up with lemon and parsley..
