Siomai is the first food i ever cooked for Itoy, my fiance. Come to think of it, for his entire clan! I brought a few dozens for their family reunion when we were barely a month together. Needless to say, I made quite a good impression (or so Itoy says).

Ingredients

Add to Grocery List

  • 1 pkg
    molo wrapper
  • 1/2 kg
    ground pork
  • 1/4 kg
    shrimps
  • 1 small
    white onion, grated
  • 6 clove
    garlic, minced
  • 1/2 tsp
    kikkoman soy sauce
  • ·
    salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 small
    carrot, grated (optional)

How to Make Itoy's Siomai

Step-by-Step

  1. Pour hot water over ground meat. (I do this to slightly "cook" it.) Drain.
  2. Slice shrimps into itty bitty pieces, almost the size of the ground meat.
  3. Combine ground meat, shrimps, grated onion, and minced garlic. Mix thoroughly.
  4. Add a few drops of Kikkoman soy sauce (I insist on Kikkoman!), salt and pepper to taste.
  5. Put a teaspoonful of the siomai mix in the center of a molo wrapper. Twist corners together.
  6. Steam the siomai or deep fry. Serve with chili sauce or soy sauce with lemon juice.
  7. Serve with wanton noodles or yang chow fried rice.
