The first time I heard of this recipe from my husband (then boyfriend) I said "YUCK!", but I am always game to try something new. There is a substantial Italian community close by here and this is a loose version of what they call bagna cauda. I love this stuff now but have yet to taste the authentic version. We usually have it around New Year's but I have been known to fix it whenever I get the craving. Don't be put off by the ingredients if you like garlic you will love it too! Originally it called for more butter but I cut it in half because it was just to much for me.

prep time 5 Min
cook time 10 Min
method Microwave
yield 4 -6 servings

Ingredients

  • 1 can tuna, lrg., oil or water
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 1 stick butter, not margarine
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder or fresh garlic, you can use as much as you like.
  • 8 slices any kind of bread

How To Make hot tuna dip

  • Step 1
Drain water if using water packed tuna and place in microwave safe bowl.
  • Step 2
Add butter and cream cheese. Microwave in increments till you can stir all together completely and the cream cheese is incorporated in with no lumps.
  • Step 3
Add your garlic powder. This part is a personal preference. You can use fresh minced very fine, roasted smashed or if like me and can't wait just use as much powder as you like. If using fresh you may need to cook it longer or cook the garlic separate for a bit before stirring into the mixture.
  • Step 4
Toast your bread and prop up so it cools and drys out some. Then cut in quarters to spoon the dip onto. Yum!
