This is the Texas version of the back of the box favorite Chex Party Mix. This is a very flexible and forgiving recipe, and if you think of something you’d like, throw it in. Makes 12 cups, serving many.Source unknown

Ingredients

  • - 3/4 stick unsalted butter, 6 tablespoons
  • - 1/4 cup hot pepper sauce
  • - 2 tbsp. worcestershire sauce
  • - 1 tbsp. chili powder blend
  • - 1 tsp. oregano, crumbled
  • - 2 cups regular size fritos corn chips
  • - 2 cups crispix cereal
  • - 2 cups ritz bits mini cheese crackers
  • - 2 cups corn nuts
  • - 1 1/2 cups fish shaped pretzel crackers
  • - 1 cup pepitas (roasted pumpkin seeds)
  • - 1 cup roasted hulled peanuts
  • - 2/3 cup shelled sunflower seeds

How To Make texas trash

  • Step 1
    Position rack in middle of oven and preheat to 250. In shallow 3 quart baking dish, melt together butter, hot pepper sauce, Worcestershire, chili powder blend land oregano. In large bowl, stir together Fritos, Crispix, Ritz Bits, Corn Nuts, pretzel crackers, pepitas, peanuts and sunflower seeds. Add Fritos mixture to melted butter mixture in baking dish and toss to coat it thoroughly and evenly. Return dish to oven and bake, stirring every 10 minutes for 1 hour. The Trash should be dry, loose and lightly browned. Transfer it to a storage container, cool it completely and cover it tightly. Store at room temperature. The texture and flavor of the Texas Trash will be at their best when it is consumed within forty eight hours.
