These are softer and tastier than cheez it crackers. They are great warm or cold. I like to eat them right out of the oven with cider!

Ingredients

  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon cayenne pepper (optional)
  • 1 pound extra sharp cheddar (shredded)
  • 1/2 pound butter

How To Make cheddar cheese straws

  • Step 1
    Preheat oven to 400 Sift flour three times with salt and cayenne pepper. ( I omit the cayenne).
  • Step 2
    Add grated cheddar to flour. Melt butter and allow to cool a bit. Mix butter with other ingredients to form a stiff dough.
  • Step 3
    Roll on lightly floured waxed paper in a 1/4 thick rectangle.
  • Step 4
    Cut dough into strips that are approx. 1/2 wide and 4 inches long. Bake for 15 minutes on ungreased cookie sheets.
