self rising flour
1 tsp
onion, minced
3/4 c
1/2 tsp
cayenne pepper, ground
peanut oil as required

How to Make Cajun Hush Puppies


  • 1Combine all ingredients except oil then mix well. Heat 1 inch of oil until hot but not smoking.
  • 2Drop cornmeal mixture by rounded teaspoonfuls into oil to form hush puppies.
  • 3Cook in batches 2-3 minutes, while turning to brown on all sides.
  • 4Remove from oil with a slotted spoon. Drain on paper towels on a platter. Serve immediately while still hot.
