Ingredients

  • 15 - sliced cucumbers
  • 3 - onions, sliced thin
  • 1/4 cup coarse salt
  • 4 cups cracked ice
  • 2 1/2 cups cider vinegar
  • 2 1/2 cups sugar
  • 3/4 teaspoon tumeric
  • 1/2 teaspoon celery seed
  • 1 tablespoon mustard seed

How To Make bread & butter pickles

  • Step 1
    Combine cucumbers, onions and salt with ice in large bowl. Mix well. Add weight to top and sit for 3 hours. Using a plate with your vinegar jug will work. Drain.
  • Step 2
    Combine vinegar, sugar, turmeric, celery seed and mustard seed in large pot. Add drained cucumbers.
  • Step 3
    Bring almost to boil, do not allow to boil. Remove from heat. Transfer to glass jars and seal with lids in large pot with hot water. 10 minutes hot water bath. Set out to cool, lids to seal before storing in pantry.
