How To Make asian essentials: wonton wrappers

  • Step 1
    PREP/PREPARE
  • Step 2
Gather your Ingredients (mise en place).
  • Step 3
Mixing the Dough Add the flour to a bowl and mix in the egg. Then slowly add the water, a bit at a time, until you have a shaggy dough.
  • Step 4
I am using a stand mixer, fitted with a dough hook; however, you could use a bowl and mix by hand.
  • Step 5
Remove from the bowl, and knead on a clean floured surface until you have a firm ball that is not too sticky, about 5 – 6 minutes.
  • Step 6
If the dough is too sticky, sprinkle on a bit of flour and work it in until it does not stick to your hands. If the dough is too dry, sprinkle on a bit of water and work it into the flour.
  • Step 7
Cover with plastic, and let rest for 30 minutes.
  • Step 8
Cut into three or four sections, and roll into ropes about six inches wide. Cut off pieces and roll into balls about half the size of a golf ball.
  • Step 9
Using a rolling pin or a pasta machine, roll the dough out until about 1/8 inch thick.
  • Step 10
If you want them perfectly round, you could use a large cookie cutter. In addition to circles, I cut the dough into squares, so I could make wonton triangles.
  • Step 11
Fill them with whatever you fancy, and then deep fry or bake until golden brown and yummy.
  • Step 12
