These always go over well when I serve them. Most times I get requests to bring them to parties. This needs to chill overnight.

  • 1 - 3 oz packages cream cheese, softened
  • 1 cup chopped celery
  • 1/2 cup chopped sweet red pepper
  • 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese. (4 oz)
  • 1/2 cup chopped water chestnuts
  • 1 teaspoon garlic salt
  • 1 - loaf (26 inches) french bread, cut in half, lengthwise

  • - dried parsley flakes to sprinkle
  • 2 - dill pickle spears, cut in half or 1/4 if using whole pickles
  • 4 slices deli ham

How To Make stuffed bread appetizers

  • Step 1
In a large bowl, combine the first seven ingredients. Set aside.
  • Step 2
Hollow out top and bottom slices of bread, leaving 1/2 inch shell and discard or save for another use. Spread a layer of mayonnaise over each slice of bread. Sprinkle mayonnaise with parsley flakes.
  • Step 3
Fill each bread half with cheese mixture. Wrap pickle pieces with a slices of ham and place on bottom 1/2 of loaf. Replace top, press together to seal, wrap in foil and chill overnight. Just before serving, cut into 1 inch slices.
  • Step 4
Cooks note: I usually double this recipe. I will make 2 inch slices depending on the crowd.
