Stuffed Bread Appetizers

Janice Splaha

These always go over well when I serve them. Most times I get requests to bring them to parties.

This needs to chill overnight.

1 - 8 oz pkg
cream cheese, softened
1 - 3 oz pkg
cream cheese, softened
1 c
chopped celery
1/2 c
chopped sweet red pepper
1 c
shredded cheddar cheese. (4 oz)
1/2 c
chopped water chestnuts
1 tsp
garlic salt
loaf (26 inches) french bread, cut in half, lengthwise
mayonnaise for spreading
dried parsley flakes to sprinkle
dill pickle spears, cut in half or 1/4 if using whole pickles
4 slice
deli ham

1In a large bowl, combine the first seven ingredients. Set aside.
2Hollow out top and bottom slices of bread, leaving 1/2 inch shell and discard or save for another use. Spread a layer of mayonnaise over each slice of bread. Sprinkle mayonnaise with parsley flakes.
3Fill each bread half with cheese mixture. Wrap pickle pieces with a slices of ham and place on bottom 1/2 of loaf. Replace top, press together to seal, wrap in foil and chill overnight. Just before serving, cut into 1 inch slices.
4Cooks note: I usually double this recipe. I will make 2 inch slices depending on the crowd.
