Many years ago, someone in the family collected recipes from descendants of my great grandparents, William M. and Florence E. (Snodgrass) Whaley and had them compiled into a cookbook. I am posting those recipes here so that they will not be lost. This recipe was submitted by Joetta Matos.

Ingredients

Add to Grocery List

1 lb
bulk sausage
1/2 lb
sharp cheese, grated
1/2 tsp
basil, dried
1/2 tsp
oregano, dried
1/2 tsp
garlic powder
dijon mustard
rye bread

How to Make Sausage Canapes

Step-by-Step

  • 1Crumble sausage in skillet and cook until brown. Drain.
  • 2Add cheese and spices to sausage in the skillet. Stir until melted and blended.
  • 3Spread bread slices with Dijon mustard.
  • 4Top with cheese mixture.
  • 5Bake in pre-heated 350° oven for 10 minutes or until bubbly.
  • 6Hint: May be frozen before baking.
