Many years ago, someone in the family collected recipes from descendants of my great grandparents, William M. and Florence E. (Snodgrass) Whaley and had them compiled into a cookbook. I am posting those recipes here so that they will not be lost. This recipe was submitted by Joetta Matos.

Ingredients
- 1 pound bulk sausage
- 1/2 pound sharp cheese, grated
- 1/2 teaspoon basil, dried
- 1/2 teaspoon oregano, dried
- 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
- - dijon mustard
- - rye bread
How To Make sausage canapes

Step 1Crumble sausage in skillet and cook until brown. Drain.

Step 2Add cheese and spices to sausage in the skillet. Stir until melted and blended.

Step 3Spread bread slices with Dijon mustard.

Step 4Top with cheese mixture.

Step 5Bake in pre-heated 350° oven for 10 minutes or until bubbly.

Step 6Hint: May be frozen before baking.
