Many years ago, someone in the family collected recipes from descendants of my great grandparents, William M. and Florence E. (Snodgrass) Whaley and had them compiled into a cookbook. I am posting those recipes here so that they will not be lost. This recipe was submitted by Joetta Matos.

Ingredients For sausage canapes

1 lbbulk sausage
-
1/2 lbsharp cheese, grated

1/2 tspbasil, dried

1/2 tsporegano, dried

1/2 tspgarlic powder
-
dijon mustard
-
rye bread
How To Make sausage canapes

1Crumble sausage in skillet and cook until brown. Drain.

2Add cheese and spices to sausage in the skillet. Stir until melted and blended.

3Spread bread slices with Dijon mustard.

4Top with cheese mixture.

5Bake in pre-heated 350° oven for 10 minutes or until bubbly.

6Hint: May be frozen before baking.
