A memory from my early adulthood days. Seems like every party had these, and I haven't eaten them since the 70's.

Ingredients

  • 1 can (8 oz) whole water chestnuts, drained
  • soy sauce
  • - sugar
  • 1/2 pound bacon, cut in thirds

How To Make rumaki

  • Step 1
    Cut each water chestnut in half. Marinate in soy sauce to cover, for 45 minutes.
  • Step 2
    Drain chestnuts. Roll in sugar. Wrap a piece of bacon around the chestnut and secure with a toothpick Place on a rack on a foil-lined baking sheet.
  • Step 3
    Repeat with remaining chestnuts. Bake in a 400 F oven until the bacon is crisp. Serve with Indian chutney.
