Ingredients

  • 1/2 lb
    hot italian sausage
  • 1/2 lb
    sweet italian sausage
  • 1 clove
    garlic, minced
  • 6 oz
    tomato paste
  • 1/4 tsp
    dried basil
  • 1/4 tsp
    dried oregano
  • ·
    salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste
  • 1
    loaf frozen bread dough, thawed

How to Make Italian Sausage Roll

Step-by-Step

  1. If using sausage in links, remove casing. Cook sausage over medium heat breaking up into fine pieces. Add garlic and saute for 2 minutes more. Add tomato paste, basil, oregano, salt and pepper. Cook for about 15 minutes. Remove from heat and allow to cool.
  2. Roll dough into a rectangle, about 20 x 16 inches. Spread sausage mixture over dough. Roll up lengthwise. Make two or three 1 inch slits in the top of the dough for venting.
  3. Place seam side down on a greased baking sheet and bake at 325 degrees for 30 minutes, or until nicely browned. If dough is getting too brown, cover with foil Serves 6.
