Many years ago, someone in the family collected recipes from descendants of my great grandparents, William M. and Florence E. (Snodgrass) Whaley and had them compiled into a cookbook. I am posting those recipes here so that they will not be lost. This recipe was submitted by Darlene Whaley

Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 pounds ground beef
  • 1/2 cup dry bread crumbs
  • 1/3 cup minced onion
  • 1/4 cup milk
  • 1 large egg
  • 1 tablespoon snipped parsley
  • 1 tablespoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1/4 cup shortening
  • 12 ounces bottle chili sauce
  • 10 ounces grape jelly

How To Make cocktail meatballs

  • Step 1
Mix ground beef, bread crumbs, onion, milk, egg, parsley, salt, pepper and Worcestershire sauce.
  • Step 2
    Shape into 1 inch balls.
  • Step 3
Melt shortening in large skillet; brown meatballs in shortening. Remove from heat and drain.
  • Step 4
Put jelly and chili sauce in a pan or a crockpot; add meatballs and heat.
  • Step 5
Variation: Instead of browning meatballs in a skillet with shortening, line a jelly roll pan with foil and brown meatballs in the oven. It's a lot less mess. Just throw away the foil after draining off the grease.
