My sister made these on New Year's Eve. Everyone loved them. I got her recipe and tweaked it a little to my liking. Hope you like it, too.

Deep Fry

3/4 c
yellow cornmeal
1/2 c
all purpose flour
1 1/2 tsp
baking powder
1/2 tsp
1/8 tsp
cayenne pepper, powdered ( can also use red pepper flakes, if you prefer)
8 oz
pepper jack cheese, shredded
1 can(s)
choppped green chiles, mild, drained
2 Tbsp
red onion, minced
1/2 c
vegetable oil, for frying

How to Make Mexican Hush Puppies


  • 1Combine first 8 ingredients in a large bowl; make a well in center of mixture.
  • 2Combine egg and milk.
  • 3Add to dry ingredients, stirring just until moistened.
  • 4In a dutch oven, pour about 3 inches of oil.
    Heat to 375F.
  • 5Carefully drop batter by rounded tablespoonsful into hot oil.
  • 6Fry a few at a time 3 to 4 minutes or until golden brown, turning once.
  • 7Drain on paper towels.
  • 8Serve while hot with any dip or sauce you prefer.
