cuban sandwich ham & cheesew/ a shandy beverage
My first taste of a Cuban Sandwich, was in Ybor City,Fl. The ones at The Silver Cafe are to die for! I had vacationed in Fl.for many years and always made a stop for a Cuban Sandwich. I now live 2,825 miles from Tampa, and missed them. So I finally made a close clone of the sandwich and can once again enjoy them, after I purchased a Panini Grill. Guess what! You do not need a grill to make this sandwich...Instructions follow. Now I can have them ANYTIME !

-
Step 1Split rolls. Spread cut sides of rolls with mustard. Layer and divide cheese, ham or Canadian bacon, and pickle slices among the roll halves.. Heat sandwich press. Brush top and bottom of rolls lightly with melted butter. Grill about 4 minutes, or until bread is crispy and cheese begins to melt.

Step 2Or...you can grill in a non-stick skillet over medium high heat 2-3 minutes per side, pressing down on bread with a spatula while cooking. Serves 4.
-
Step 3The beverage I like with it is a "Shandy Gaff " The English have been making a Shandy Gaff since 1600's. The popular drink is made with 1/2 beer and 1/2 ginger ale, 7up or lemonade. I make mine with 1/2 beer, 1/2 Sprite, and a slice of lemon....see picture.

Step 4P.S. I think I will try this sandwich with my recipe... "Candied Crunchy Dill Hunks"...... slicing the hunks ,for a Cuban Sandwich....
