french onion soup grilled cheese

I love Caramelized onions...Almost as much as I love my cheese. I had some Caramelized onions leftover from last night, so decided to throw them in a grilled cheese with Provolone. Then it Kinda clicked. The Crusty, toasted bread, Represented the Crouton in the soup, All the cheese was there, and all those sweet onions. Tasted just like my favorite soup! Hope you all enjoy!

Ingredients

  • 4 slices your favorite bread
  • 1 - spanish onion
  • 4 tablespoons sugar
  • Couple pinch salt
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 2 slices swiss cheese
  • 4 tablespoons butter

How To Make french onion soup grilled cheese

  • Step 1
    Caramelize the onions in 1T of the butter, add salt. Once semi-translucent, add the 4T of Sugar and sautee until golden brown, sweet and caramelized. Set aside until needed.
  • Step 2
    Add the remaining 3T of butter in a large pan, and allow to melt.
  • Step 3
    On the bottom slice, add 1 slice of Swiss and top with Half of the Caramelized Onions. Top with 3 slices of Provolone and top with the other piece of bread.
  • Step 4
    Cook like your standard grilled cheese, Once the side of the bread is golden, Flip and cook the other side is just as golden.
  • Step 5
    Enjoy right away! :)
