My Aunt Ellen always made these at Christmas time and I loved them. They were a favorite thing to find in a can on her counter top. This is a picture of Aunt Ellen with my mama (Omega).

butter, softened
8 oz
sharp cheddar cheese, grated
1/4 tsp
salt
1/2 tsp
garlic powder
1 tsp
cayenne pepper
1 tsp
worcestershire sauce
2 c
all purpose flour
1 1/2 c
rice krispies

How to Make Ellen's Cheddar Snack Bits

Step-by-Step

  • 1Blend softened butter with grated cheese.
  • 2Add salt, garlic powder, cayenne powder and worcestershire.
  • 3Stir in flour and rice krispies.
  • 4For wafers: Form by hand into balls and flatten with fork.
  • 5For straws: Flatten pieces of dough by hand on parchment paper and cut into 4 x 6 inch straws and separate. You can also use a pastry bag or cookie press and squeeze them out.
  • 6Place on an ungreased cookie sheet.
  • 7Bake in a 325 degree oven for 17 minutes. Watch carefully and do not overbake. Let cool slightly and place on paper towels. Store in an air tight container.
