I received this recipe from a co-worker back in the 80's. It's a "Mans" kind of appetizer!

method Broil
yield Makes 50 - 60

Ingredients

  • 1 pound ground beef
  • 1 pound hot italian sausage
  • 1/2 teaspoon worcestershire sauce
  • 1/2 teaspoon oregano, dried
  • 1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
  • dash black pepper
  • 1 pound valveeta cheese, melted
  • 2 packages party rye bread

How To Make canapes

  • Step 1
Brown hamburger and sausage in skillet. Drain.
  • Step 2
Add remaining ingredients except rye bread. Spoon meat mixture on top of party rye slices. Place on cookie sheets and freeze. Place frozen canapes into freezer bags to be ready for future use.
  • Step 3
To use: place frozen slices under broiler about 5-6 minutes. When top bubbles, canapes are ready to serve. Watch closely to prevent burning.
