This recipe is from a cookbook my son gave me called Naomi's Home Companion. (Naomi Judd)

I served them as of one the tea sandwiches at a tea party.
Everyone liked them.

  • 1/4 c
    grated parmesan cheese
  • 1/4 c
  • 4 c
    wheat bread, crusts removed
  • ·
    very thin slices vidalia or other sweet onion

How to Make Easy Onionettes


  1. Preheat the broiler
  2. In a small bowl, mix together the cheese and mayonnaise. Spread evenly on the bread slices. Cut each into 4 equal squares. Place a onion slice on each square.
  3. Broil 4 to 5 inches from the heat until browned, about 2 minutes. Serve immediately.
  4. Makes 16 small opened faced sandwiches. These can be cut smaller for bite size. I count 2 sandwiches for a serving.
