Here is another one of my Mom's recipes that I thought was lost forever. I loved when my mom and grandmother would make pickles.

Ingredients

  • 2 qt
    sliced cucumbers
  • 1 1/2 c
    sliced onions
  • 2 c
    vinegar
  • 1/2 tsp
    tumeric
  • 1/4 tsp
    celery seed
  • 3 1/2 tsp
    mustard seed

How to Make Bread & Butter Pickles

Step-by-Step

  1. Place sliced cucumbers and onions in dish and cover with ice cubes and 1 quart water. Let stand in refrigerator for 3 hours to make sure they are crisp.
  2. Mix vinegar, tumeric, celery seed and mustard seed together and bring to a boil.
  3. Take cucumbers and onions out of water and simmer in vinegar mixture for 10 minutes.
  4. Place in jars and cover with liquid.
  5. Seal jars. Always refrigerate before eating.
