I first tried Saganaki in Athens, Greece. I have made Saganaki at home in my kitchen. It is really good. My husband and I both enjoy very much and I hope you will try and love it too.

Ingredients

  • ·
    graviera, kasseri or kefalotiri cheese cut into 1/2 " (1cm) slices
  • ·
    (i use kefalotiri cheese) buy at a greek store or cheese shop
  • ·
    flour
  • ·
    butter or margarine
  • ·
    lemon wedges
  • ·
    brandy optional

How to Make SAGANAKI

Step-by-Step

  1. Dust cheese lightly with flour
  2. Heat a skillet over medium high heat
  3. Add butter and fry the cheese until golden brown on both sides
  4. Transfer to a warm plate
  5. squeeze lemon juice over the slices
  6. Serve immediately
  7. ADD TO THE GUSTO! TO MAKE SAGANAKI FLAMBE:
  8. Remove skillet from stove
  9. pour a jigger of warmed brandy over the cheese and light with a long matchstick.
  10. Serve with lemon wedges when flame subsides
