Ingredients For sour dough bread starter

  • 1 3/4 c
    flour, sifted
  • 1 Tbsp
    sugar
  • 1 Tbsp
    salt
  • 1 pkg
    active dry yeast
  • 2 1/2 c
    water, warm
  • TO ADD TO STARTER AFTER USE
  • 1 1/2 c
    water, warm
  • 3/4 c
    flour, unsifted
  • 2 tsp
    sugar

How To Make sour dough bread starter

    In a large mixer bowl, combine all dry ingredients, add water and beat until thoroughly blended
  • 2
    Put the mixture in a gallon size zip lock bag and let sit at room temperature four days, shaking thoroughly each day. Transfer to a qt size jar and refrigerate. Shake the mixture daily accept the day you are going to use it.

    Use at least once a week, add the additional ingredients after each use and mix well with a mixer and put back into a clean jar.
