This is an old fashioned dessert, but very good. I have had this recipe since the 80's.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup butter, softened
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 3/4 cups milk
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon nutmeg, ground
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1/2 cup pecan pieces
  • 1/2 cup golden raisins
  • 5 cups french bread cubes

How To Make bread pudding

  • Step 1
    For the bread cubes: Using a large bread knife, cut crust off of the french bread. Stack a few slices and cube into 1" cubes. Set aside.
  • Step 2
    In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar together, add the eggs, spices, vanilla and milk, stir after each addition.
  • Step 3
    Add the bread cubes, raisins and pecans, toss until all the bread has been coated well. Put mixture into a greased, covered baking dish. Let stand for about 15 minutes. Bake at 350 for 45 minutes, take lid off and bake additional 10 minutes. Serve warm with whipped cream.
