old fashioned nut bread
Another antique recipe which I love. The recipe asked for "sweet milk" i.e. whole milk but I know that any milk would work just fine.

4 small loaves. Pan size: 6 x 3.5 x 2 inches.
Ingredients
- 1/2 cup shortening
- 1 cup sugar or to taste
- 1 cup whole milk (non-dairy milk will work just fine)
- 1 teaspoon 1 teaspoon
- 2 1/2 cups flour
- 2 teaspoons baking powder
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 4 - egg whites
- 1 cup chopped nuts
How To Make old fashioned nut bread

Step 1Preheat oven to 350 degrees.

Step 2In a large mixing bowl cream together shortening and sugar. In a separate bowl, whisk flour, baking powder and salt.

Step 3Add the flour mixture to the sugar mixture a little at a time, alternating with the milk.

Step 4Add vanilla and egg whites. Combine well. Make sure to scrape the sides of the bowl. Fold in nuts.

Step 5Pour into prepared bread pans and bake for 30 minutes or until a knife inserted in center of loaf comes out clean.

Step 6Cool slightly in pans and then remove to cooling rack.
