ginger cookies
This recipe was Grandma Lillie's and I actually found the original recipe in her recipe files. She had clipped it out of a newspaper dated 1934(she had it written on the recipe)with the note that this was Dee's favorite cookie(my Mom). I have made these for classroom parties as gingerbread men and decorated them, it was a labor of love. That was also when parent's could bring home made goodies to school! This is Brenda's favorite cookie!

Ingredients
- 3/4 cup butter
- 1 cup sugar
- 2 large eggs
- 1 cup sour cream
- 1 teaspoon baking soda
- 1/2 cup molasses
- 1 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 teaspoon ginger powder
- 1 teaspoon vanilla
- 5 cups flour
How To Make ginger cookies
-
Step 1In a mixing bowl, cream the butter and sugar together until fluffy. Add the rest of the ingredients in order and mixing after the eggs, then through the vanilla, mix. Add the flour one cup at a time, mixing slowly.
-
Step 2There are two ways you can use this dough. 1: Cover and chill the dough. Divide the dough into 4 portions or more. Roll out each portion on a floured area to about 1/8" inch thick or more with a rolling pin. Use cookie cutters to make cookies.
-
Step 3Or 2: Using a cookie scoop, place the cookies on a parchment lined cookie sheet about 3" apart. Using a glass with a flat bottom, dip the glass in a bowl of sugar, press the glass on the cookie to flatten it to about 1/8" or so. Do this for all the cookies.
-
Step 4Bake the cookies at 350 for about 10 minutes. Let the cookies cool. Frost each cookie with a teaspoon of Buttercream Frosting and decorate with festive sprinkles.
