This recipe was given to me by Jane Hurst Taylor. The Hurst family was one of the first to settle in Texas and maintains one of the oldest working ranches in the state.

Ingredients

  • 8 cups bread crumbs, fresh
  • 2 packages cornbread mix
  • 4 cups celery
  • 4 cups onions
  • 4 - eggs
  • 1 tablespoon poultry seasoning
  • 1 tablespoon sage
  • 3 cans chicken broth

How To Make texas settler's holiday dressing

  • Step 1
    Chop Celery & Onions
  • Step 2
    Bring celery & onions to a slight boil using chicken broth to soften them, let it cool.
  • Step 3
    Blend poultry seasoning & sage into chicken broth.
  • Step 4
    Whip eggs and add to broth mixture.
  • Step 5
    Mix bread crumbs & cornbread mix in a large mixing bowl.
  • Step 6
    Combine everything into the large bowl & mix well.
  • Step 7
    Bake at 350 for 45 minutes
